It would be a fair statement to say that almost without exception, every person in Sydney who uses Taxis on a regular basis would have an experience worth discussing and, unfortunately, these experiences are often bad and can include but not limited to:-
- Booked Taxis Not turning up
- Taxis not available when venues shut at 2-3am
- Taxis not available during peak times
- Smelly taxis
- Taxis breaking down
- Driver not knowing locations/addresses
- Meters starting before boarding the taxi
- Disagreement as to routes
- Ineffective complaints system
Our desire is to emulate the success of the "Raise The Bar" campaign in bringing about change to the legislation to reform the Taxi Industry. This reform has been mooted for many years but no change has occurred and yet the service is coming under increased pressure with the growth of Sydney coupled with drink driving concerns and central city parking restrictions.
These pressures will become even more intense if the new bar rules achieve the stated desire of revitalising the central city in the evenings. If you have an opinion or even better, first hand experience, positive or negative, we welcome your contributions.
It should be emphasised that the need for change has been identified by all parties that are involved in the industry. One of the key issues that exists is the total breakdown of communications between the Govt Regulators and the key industry players.
